Letter to Władysław Glocer

part of the collection

The letter from Theophilus Glocer to his son on 3 cards. From the content of the letter (original spelling): "I want to tell you today the course of my life since leaving the unfortunate Opoczno. I left this valley of tears on 6 March, exactly one month after Mother's death; it was difficult for me to part with this painful place, but on the other hand I did not have the courage or strength to undertake this difficult journey on my own, because at that time one had to take the place in the wagons by storm, or at best get on an open platform or on the roof of a coal-car - this is how thousands and tens of thousands of displaced persons and repatriates returning to the country travelled and still travel today. I preferred to wait for the arrival of my dear Ewa, who had promised to come for me. Unable to wait for her arrival (due to indisposition and frost she couldn't make it), I decided to go myself and use the services of a Jewish soldier who put me in a covered freight car and so I reached Koluszki, where I had to change trains for the Warsaw train". | MW
