Letter to Wojciech Przybyszewski

part of the collection

The letter with a drawing in gouache technique, pasted on cardboard, without ending, which was probably glued to the cardboard. Teodor Bok informs us that an "alcoholic deed" caused a delay in replying to a friend's letter and a feeling of guilt; he treats the above letter as a remedy for his remorse. He thanks you for the book he has received: it has made him reflect on his scant knowledge of a world that was just around the corner but has now disappeared. Little is known about the Ukrainians, Jews and Belarusians living in the country they both come from. This awareness inspired the artist to create a series of drawings and paintings entitled Zaginione cywilizacje (Lost civilisations), their most dramatic symbol being Jewish cemeteries, stones that survived the cataclysm.
