Letter to Wojciech Przybyszewski

part of the collection

Teodor Bok never broke off contact with his country and his friends from his youth. In the summer of 1981, for the first time since Bok's departure, his works were shown in Warsaw, at an exhibition prepared by a group of artists which assumed the humourous name of "Śmietanka" ("La Crème"). It included Ewa Kuryluk and Andrzej Bieńkowski. Bok dreamed of a visit: "Right now, there's an exhibition at the MDM gallery in Warsaw where a new sculpture stands and some drawings [are being shown]. Perhaps I'll come to Poland in autumn if Big Brother permits and I manage to get everything done" (Letter from Teodor Bok to Wojciech Przybyszewski from August 1981). "Big Brother", symbol of the communist regime from George Orwell's novel "1984" or the lack of money prevented Bok from coming to Poland at that time.
