Lublin

Rolke, Tadeusz (1929- )

Sometimes a moment, a coincidence is decisive for a photo. This is the case of the gate,“beautifully cut with light”, in a house at Jezuicka Street in Lublin; Tadeusz Rolke said about it: “that’s precisely the way the light was there and I noticed it. (…) No, I don’t arrange photos. (…) It’s just a gap in a decaying building, a gap that leads into the backyard. It creates depth and gives some hope in this sorrow. Many people find these photos sad. I don’t.” (http://www.rosikonpress.com/wywiad_449/Tadeusz_Rolke.html, accessed 18 November 2020). Sunbeams stream through gaps in the closed frame of a double-leaf gateway and an entrance gate, drawing luminous lines and geometric figures on the floor and wall. Renata Piątkowska
