Machzor (Holiday Prayer Book)

Hebrew prayer book for Yom Kippur (Hebrew: Day of Atonement) from the collection of the Regional Museum in Pińczów. It consists of 384 pages. It is a holiday prayer book (machzor). The German title (Abendgebete beim Eingange des Jom Kippur Kol-Nidre) indicates that it probably follows the Ashkenazi rite.

Yom Kippur is celebrated on the 10th day of the month of Tishri (the first month of the Jewish calendar, falling in September–October). It is one of the most solemn and important religious holidays. It is sometimes called the Day of Reconciliation or Repentance, and sometimes the Day of Judgement. It marks the end of a ten-day period of penance beginning on the Jewish New Year (Hebrew: Rosh HaShanah). On Yom Kippur, there is a strict all-day fast and work is prohibited.
