Objects

Round cover for three pieces of matzah. It is made from four round pieces of fabric placed on one another, sewn together along the edges to about the middle of their circumference, with the other half open. The top piece is made of satin fabric, the remaining ones are cotton. Patches (tabs) for easy opening are attached to three layers of the cover – the top and the two middle ones. They are decorated with embroidered Hebrew inscriptions representing three Israelite classes: Kohen (priest), Levi (Levite), Israel (the people of Israel). The top of the cover is decorated with a Hebrew inscription embroidered in yellow thread: “Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu, melekh ha'olam, asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu al achilat matzah” (Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the Universe, Who has sanctified us in His commandments and commanded us to eat matzah). The arched text is surrounded by a representation of a wreath made of wildflowers, tied with a yellow bow in the centre. The edges of the cover and the tabs are trimmed with golden tassels.

The item forms part of the prewar collection of the National Museum of Przemyśl. Due to missing inventory documentation it has been impossible to determine how it became property of the Museum.
