Round cover for three pieces of matzah. It is made from four round pieces of cotton fabric placed on one another, sewn together along the edges to about the middle of their circumference, with the other half open. The top piece is covered with white grosgrain fabric. Patches (tabs) for easy opening are attached to three layers of the cover – the top, the middle, and the bottom. They are embroidered with Hebrew names of three Israelite classes: Kohen (priest), Levi (Levite), Israel (the people of Israel). The top of the cover is decorated with a Hebrew inscription along the rim, embroidered in white and red thread: “Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu, melekh ha'olam, asher kid'shanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu al achilat matzah” (Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the Universe, Who has sanctified us in His commandments and commanded us to eat matzah). The embroidered decoration in the centre of the top layer is a representation of a small branch surrounded by a wreath made of stylised stalks of wildflowers, with a Hebrew inscription in red thread above: “Chag HaPesach” (Passover Holiday). The ornaments are made with flat-stitch embroidery in satin thread, sequins, and silver beads. The edges of the cover and the tabs are trimmed with thick silver tassels.
The item forms part of the prewar collection of the National Museum of Przemyśl. Due to missing inventory documentation it has been impossible to determine how it became property of the Museum.
