Negative: Tarnów – Rybny Square, Old Synagogue

The film (a negative designed for analog cameras) shows three miniature images. The first shows a fragment of the interior of the Old Synagogue. A shot of the Aron ha-Kodesh (the sacred cabinet where the Torah scrolls were kept) covered with a cloth called a Torah Ark curtain. Next to it, an amud – a lectern for the chazan – was placed under the window.

Underneath are two representations of the Old Synagogue building. The first on the left was taken at the back of the building. The yard and a small wooden extension adjacent to the building are visible. The representation on the right depicts the body of the synagogue from the front and from the side. The building was located on Rybny Square. The only element of the Old Synagogue that survived the fire in November 1939 and has been preserved to this day is the bimah.
