Marta Olchawa – dziewczynka uratowana z getta lwowskiego

A note with vital record data of Kazimierz and Stanisława Olchawa and Marta Józefa Olchawa (born Bauer) – manuscript on a single page of ruled paper, written in Polish. The note informs that Marta Józefa Olchawa, born on 9 June 1938 in Lvov, was the daughter of Kazimierz and Stanisława Olchawa. According to the testimony of Elżbieta Chmielewska – Marta Olchawa’s friend – Stanisława Olchawa never married. There is no information on Kazimierz Olchawa. Marta Olchawa was rescued from the Lvov ghetto. Her biological parents were Ernestyna née Kutin and Izydor Marek Bauer, a violinist from Lvov. They died in the ghetto, but they earlier managed to pass their child into safe hands, thanks to which the girl survived. Marta Bauer found a new home with Stanisława Olchawa. Marta took on her surname, and the new mother gave her a middle name: Józefa. Interestingly, the note states that Stanisława’s maiden name was Olchawa – the same as her supposed husband’s. | Text by Monika Harchut
