Office of the Lublin District Governor

Photographic documentation of the site

The office of the German Governor in Lublin was located in the pre-war building of the Treasury Chamber at 4 Spokojna Street. Friedrich Schmidt became the first governor. At the beginning of 1940, Ernst Zörner took over the post and held it until the spring of 1943. In the spring of 1941, Zörner ordered the establishment of a ghetto in the historic Jewish quarter in Lublin's Podzamcze district. This administration also took an active part in preparing and later executing Operation "Reinhardt", the mass murder of Jews. The building currently houses the Provincial Office in Lublin.
