Patch with the Star of David

The rectangular patch is made of yellow original canvas with a black print in the form of a six-pointed star, in the centre of which the word "Juif" is written. According to the donor's account, the item was found in the vicinity of Browarna Street (ul. Browarna) in Łowicz. During World War II, the street was located within the ghetto that had been established in 1940 and was liquidated a year later . The ghetto housed approximately 6,000-8,000 Jews of Łowicz and surrounding areas, as well as refugees. Wearing patches or armbands with the Star of David on outer clothing was an obligation imposed on the Jewish population by the German authorities in the occupied territories.
