Photograph of Diana Barlińska on a sled, with her letter to Magdalena Mamelok

The photograph with a letter to Magdalena Mamelokówna, probably written in Zakopane in February 1928 (the only specification: Sunday; the letter refers to the addressee's birthday at the beginning of February), from the author signing her name: Muma and similarly named Magdalena's mother Halina, née Baruch Mamelok. The authorship may be attributed to Diana Baruchowa (Barlińska), Magdalena Mamelok's grandmother and Halina née Baruch's mother; the collection contains several letters in photographs written in the same handwriting, also signed: D., one of them (from Tyrol [1908]) is certainly a letter from Diana Baruchowa, mother of Halina of Baruch. Undoubtedly, the woman depicted in the photograph, sitting on a sledge on a snowy mountain (with silhouettes of skiers in the background), resembles Diana Baruch (Barlińska). | This is not the custom for a grandmother to send her granddaughter correspondence written in such a way, but family accounts suggest that Diana Barlińska was a woman eager to break conventions. | From the content of the letter: "Dear Magda, I enclose you my likeness, I regret very much that the photographs of us together did not succeed! Today, it's freezing cold, and there's a lot of snow, I'm going with Jurek and Mrs Bujalska[?] to Krokiew, the last day of the competition. I give you a big hug, kiss Mumka and tell her that I will write to her when I get some sleep, because for several days I have been going to bed before dawn. Muma [...]".
