Photograph of Felicja Blumental and Krzysztof Penderecki (II)

It is part of the collection:

Photographer Michał Majerski captured the moment when Felicja Blumental and Krzysztof Penderecki, bent over the notes lying on the conductor’s music stand, carefully study the score. According to the note on the reverse, the photo was taken in 1973 in Katowice. However, the date written by the artist may be a mistake. It was in 1972 that the “Partita for Harpsichord, Electric Guitar, Bass Guitar, Harp, Double Bass and Chamber Orchestra”, composed by Penderecki in 1971 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester (New York State) and dedicated to Felicja Blumental, was recorded at the Polish Radio Studio in Katowice. Not only did she play in the premiere performance of the piece, but presented it later, along with the composer, in many music venues around the globe (see MPOLIN-A30.4.5, MPOLIN-A30.5.1) (more info: https://culture.pl/pl/dzielo/polish-fantasy-paderewski-and-penderecki , in Polish only, accessed 8 August 2021). | Renata Piątkowska
