Photograph of Halina Mamelok née Baruch in Opatija (I)

The photograph of a group of people standing up to their waists in the water, with a boat just behind them in several rows. In the background, there is a vertical jetty (made of large stones) with a wooden descent into the water. To the right of it, there are stairs to the lower part of the jetty. To the left of the boat is a rocky part of the shore. Today, this type of quay in Opatija can be found in the southern and northern parts of the resort; the brick staircase among the stones, an example of which can be seen in the middle of the upper edge of the photo, has become a trademark of the resort. Halina née Baruch was in Croatia on a summer holiday after the birth of her daughter (1922); she identified the date of the photograph as 1923 or 1924, certainly orienting it towards 1922. She is visible in the background: she is standing quite far behind the group, her silhouette is marked behind the boy (to the left of him) held in her arms; the woman is wearing the same costume as in the second photo from Opatija (another one in the collection).
