Photograph of Halina née Baruch on the balcony of the Koral family flat

Photo (without the bottom left corner) of young Halina née Baruch, about twenty-year-old as it can be supposed. The woman stands on the balcony of the Koral family's apartment in the Śródmieście district of Warsaw, at Nowosienna Street, later renamed Sienkiewicza Street. The exact address, Sienkiewicza 4, is indicated on the reverse, handwritten by Halina née Baruch. It was an impressive urban tenement house built according to the design by Wacław Heppen and Józef Napoleon Czerwiński just before World War I; the building survived the Warsaw Uprising of 1944; however, its appearance has significantly changed (its top part has been evened out and lowered, there are no decorations any more). Behind the photographed Halina née Baruch, we can see the characteristic gable of the elevation of the tenement house on the opposite side, at 8 Jasna Street, built according to Dawid Lande's design. This tenement house has also survived to this day, unfortunately also with a changed appearance (however, another house, the neighbouring one, at 10 Jasna Street, also built according to Lande's design and similar to the one under number 8, has retained its appearance; even today, the windows of the top storey look like those shown in the picture). In the background, on the right, we can see the silhouette of the tower of the famous tenement house at Nowosienna 9 Street, at the corner of Zgoda Street; it housed the seat of the Gebethner and Wolff publishing house (the building has not been preserved).
