Photograph of Jewish families from Bojanowo

This commemorative photograph shows members of the Jewish community from Bojanowo in the Rawicz county. It was made on very thin photographic paper using the contact technique. Exposed margins have been retained around the print.

The photo shows a group of adult men and women in historical costumes. They all have hats on their heads. Women's hats are decorated with bouquets of flowers. In the middle stands Karolina Schocken, née Krause (1828–1910), widow of Leopold, a merchant who died in Boerne, Texas (APL, Civil Registry Office Records of Bojanowo, file no. 235, p. 163). Kneeling in front of her is six-year-old Erich Landsberg. His mother, Ida (née Landsberg), stands on the right. She is dressed in a long coat that reaches to the ground. On the left is Rosa Baruch, née Kaskel, wearing a white blouse and long skirt. The others are the married couples: Isidor Schwersenski and Minna, née Schocken (right), Nathan Krotoschiner and Bertha, née Lachmann (middle), Jacob Kaskel and Hulda, née Schocken, and the merchant and long-standing member of the community council, Caesar David with his wife of unknown name – daughter of Leopold and Karolina Schocken (left). On the reverse, there is a subsequent description – a list of names, drawn up by the previous owner of the photograph.
