Photograph of a man and a girl from page 1v of the Garnek family album

Cabinet card photograph of a man and an approximately two-year-old girl in a full-body shot, developed on a cardboard frame. The man is sitting on a scenographic wall, and the child is standing on it. The man supports his left arm on his knee. There is a ring on his ring finger. His right hand is holding up the girl, who is dressed in a dress adorned with striped backstitch – on the wide collar, at the waist, at the hem and at the end of the long sleeves. The man wears a suit, white shirt (with bodice?) and bow tie. The man and girl had their pupils corrected (with a pen?). Slight rubbing of the top layer is visible in the middle of the photograph. According to the stamp on the reverse side, the photograph was taken in 1901 in one of the branches of the photographic studio run from the 1890s by the Wlocławek photographer Wolf Majer Majorkiewicz (1828-1905). He was active in Włocławek, and at the end of the 19th century took over a relative's studio in Warsaw at ul. Nalewki 31 (31 Nalewki Street) (owned by the Majorkiewicz family from around 1860); the atelier at nearby Plac Krasińskich (Krasińskich Square) was probably another Warsaw location for the studio. At the same time, it should be noted that in the "Księga adresowa Królestwa Polskiego" (Address Book of the Kingdom of Poland) for the year 1904 (p. 355), the address at pl. Krasińskich 3 (3 Krasińskich Square) is indicated: "Majorkiewicz, R.", not "Majorkiewicz, W.M.".
