Photograph of a man and a woman from page 3r of the Garnek family album

The photograph shows a couple standing on two sides of a railing decorated with balusters The young man standing on the left is leaning with his hand against a book placed on the railing. He is dressed in a dark coat, under which is a white shirt with a spread collar is visible. The man is wearing a round cap with a short brim, typical of Russian Jews. He has a handlebar moustache. The man bears a strong resemblance to the person in the photograph from page 13r (MPOLIN-A58.1.45). The woman, shorter than him, has a round face with a slightly protruding lower lip; she is wearing earrings. Her waistline is accentuated by a corset. The dress or two-piece suit has got decorative buttons and buff sleeves. The end of the necklace the woman is wearing is obscured by an illustrated magazine held by a woman in her right hand (lowered down). The photograph on a dark grey cardboard frame with slightly rounded corners was taken at the H. Petri photographic studio, operating in a tenement house at 46 Piotrkowska Street in Łódź. Its owner was the Berlin-born Herman Adolf Petri, with Władysław Hauser-Majewski as partner. It was one of the largest and most representative studios in the city (see J. Strzałkowski, „Historia fotografii w Łodzi do 1944 roku”, Łódź 1996; M.Z. Wojalski, „Fotografowie i fotografie Łodzi”, w: „Działo się w Łodzi…”, Łódź 1996). Compare photograph MPOLIN-A58.1.8.
