Photograph of Mojżesz (Mieczysław) Chimowicz in a group of mounted uhlans

Sepia-toned group photograph: 10 uhlans on horseback, including Mojżesz (Mieczysław) Chimowicz - first on the left, on a light coloured horse. On the obverse, below the horse's legs, a cross is applied in pen. The men wear Polish Army uniforms, all are mounted on horseback. In the background there are the buildings: the stables.

Mojżesz Chimowicz was a doctor, descended from a family of Łódź entrepreneurs who had a haberdashery stores at 11 Nowomiejska Street and Plac Wolności 5, owners of the company Brothers A. & I. Chimowicz. He was born ca. 1900 in Łódź, studied in Italy. We know that he ran a practice at 11 Nowomiejska Street and 5 Legionów Street. We know from the donor's account that he had a wife and four children, all of whom perished in the Holocaust. He himself ended up in the Anders Army during the war, where he was an officer and a surgical doctor. He remained in Palestine in 1943. He initially worked as a civilian doctor in the armed forces. Then he opened a practice in Tel Aviv, married twice (no children). He died in Tel Aviv in 1969.
