Photograph of the New Synagogue in Tarnów

A black and white photographic print, on glossy paper. The photograph shows the New Synagogue in Tarnów, the side of the temple and the golden dome crowning the building are visible. There are two passersby on the street. The photograph was probably taken in the late 1930s. The New Synagogue, also known as the Jubilee Synagogue, was opened in 1908 (after over 40 years of construction) on the birthday of Emperor Franz Joseph I, in the 60th year of his reign. The synagogue was set on fire by the Germans in November 1939. The ruins were gradually dismantled. Currently, there is a housing estate on the site.
