Photograph of Wiktoria Gabriel and two friends (last names unknown), one of whom died in the Holocaust

The photograph shows three young, elegantly dressed women on a path among small conifers and grasses, against a backdrop of farm buildings enclosed by a fence. One of the women (in the middle) is Wiktoria Gabriel (1925-2005), a Pole with no Jewish ancestry, together with her friends, one of whom, dressed in black, was Jewish. She died in the Holocaust. We don't know her name, and we don't know the name of the other colleague (who survived the war like Gabriel).

Wiktoria Gabriel went to primary school in Ostrowe or Blachownia, probably together with these friends. The photograph was probably taken in 1939, although it also is possible that it was taken a year later in Ostrów near Częstochowa, then a village, now part of the town of Blachownia. It is preserved among the mementos of Wiktoria Gabriel. The donor who gave them to the museum collection, collector Bogusław Gołębiowski, obtained them from Wiktoria's daughter (who knew from her mother which of her friends had died and which had survived).

Print slightly unevenly trimmed, with narrow light margins along edges. The number 1(?)159 is visible on the obverse.(the white numbers are the inscription on the film - the working number from the studio developing the print?).
