Photography: Tarnów – part of the city with the (New) Synagogue

A black and white photographic print, small format, on glossy paper (serrated edges). The photograph shows a view of Tarnów from the town hall tower looking northeast. Visible are the tenement houses at the Market Square, the intersection of Piekarska and Żydowska Streets, and the New Synagogue, called Jubilee Synagogue in honor of the 60 years of Franz Joseph I's reign, towering over the buildings. A distinctive feature of the synagogue was the central section, set back from the front elevation, topped with a tympanum and a spherical, gilded dome. On the back, there is a horizontal stamp of the photography shop that supplied the photographic paper: "Photographic accessories/ Ch. Bronstein /Tarnów, Tertil Passageway". The New Synagogue in Tarnów was set on fire by the Germans in November 1939. The ruins were demolished.
