Plac Nowy (New Square) in Kraków

Photographic documentation of the site

At the intersection of Estery, Izaaka, Nowa, Meiselsa and Warszauera streets, in the heart of Krakow's Kazimierz, is Nowy Square (Old Town) popularly known as Żydowski Square. From the 16th to the 19th century, the area of the present square was built up with a complex of buildings and streets, called Libuszhof. After the area was arranged according to the regulatory projects of 1808 and 1844, adapting elements of the older layout of Kazimierz, the square was given the form we can see today. The northern frontage was adapted to the line of the former defensive walls of the Kazimierz district.
