Planet

Bok, Teodor (1947-2007)

It is part of the collection

Stars and planets fascinated Teodor Bok. His interest in the Universe was reflected in his drawings, paintings and sculptures. Constructed of pieces of wood, coated with patina and gold Planeta [Planet] brings about the rather cosmological than astronomical connotations, being one of Bok’s works in which he searched for the power of the birth and the continuity of the Universe. The metaphysics presented in many of his works is connected with the search for physical shape and pattern. Planeta is a sphere belted with wooden boards. It is constructed of pieces of wood of different width and length, intersecting at many angles, joined by the key block strengthened with the wooden dowel. However, the spherical shape was violated: a quarter was cut out at the front. In the created space poles, long and slim, were situated. Inside of it, there is a gate with step structures below, and other small constructions, each of which is an individual format of its own shape, colour and meaning.

This impressive sculpture was placed on a round, wooden pedestal, painted in patina and gold. Could it be the beginning of a new universe?
