A portrait of a Jew

Cybis, Bolesław (1895-1958)

The painting from around 1925 (oil, canvas, 92 x 66.7 cm) is a full-figure representation of an old Jew. The figure is placed centrally. It's a left half-profile. The arms are bent at the elbows, facing the right, and the legs are slightly apart. The man has a grey beard, he is wearing a robe, a tubeteika and high leather boots with pleated uppers. Under the neck, a fragment of a light shirt is visible from under the robe. At the bottom, on the horizon, sketchily painted buildings. The painting is kept in a range of purples and muted browns, with a grey-blue background. There is no signature.
