Portrait of a Jewish boy

Horowitz, Leopold (1838-1917)

The painting from 1880 (oil, board, 17.7 x 9.9 cm) presents a bust of a young boy, en face, wearing a cap with a small peak tilted to the right, wearing a white shirt buttoned at the neck and a jacket. The face is long, with a prominent nose and wide mouth, large, dark eyes and slightly protruding ears. Dark, curly hair is visible on the left side. The portrait is painted on a golden background. The pale face contrasts with the dark, top grey, bottom black cap and similarly coloured jacket. There is a signature in the lower right corner: "L. Horowitz/ Lip.1880".
