Portrait photograph of Henryk Cender

The portrait photograph of Henry Cender was taken in sepia. The young man is depicted in half-figure, facing slightly to the right. He is dressed in a formal jacket and white shirt with a stiff collar. He has a bow tie under his neck and an embroidered white handkerchief in his jacket pocket. His slim face contrasts with a thick nose. The short-cut hair is pulled back. The young man smiles dreamily.

On the back of the photograph, in the centreline, there is a stamp: "P. Klotz, master photographer Bojanowo". The reverse side, as with postcards, is divided into an address and correspondence section. There is a handwritten dedication in German, written in pencil: "As a friendly remembrance to Miss Paula, dedicated by Henryk, Bojanowo 28 July 1930".

Henryk (Hersch) Cender was born on 28 October 1904, most probably in Zduńska Wola. He was the son of Józef and Cypora (née Bielawska). Henryk had been in Bojanowo since March 1927. He left the city several times and finally in July 1937, he moved to Kalisz (APL, Bojanowo City Files, file no. 106, pp. 113–114). Together with his brother Max, he was involved in commercial activities and managed a steam mill in Rawicz. He was murdered by the Germans in the Auschwitz-Birkenau camp.

Paweł Otto Klotz (born 1893) ran a photography business in Bojanowo from the 1920s until 1945. The workshop was located on what was then Rawicka Street (ul. Rawicka) (APL, Bojanowo City Files, file no. 106, pp. 211–212).
