Portrait photograph of Natalia Zajczyk

On the back of the photograph Natalia noted: "Photo dated 15/January/45 / Before the second consecutive operation / surgical". In November 1945, Natalia wrote to her sister Anna Zimmermann: "I am after the operation. I have not lost my sight. My right eye has been operated on twice, but I can still see with it, although it is like a fog, but I can see. The left eye is still good, although it is in danger. (...) I can even read with my right eye. And even if I become a cripple, I do not feel sorry for myself. To Hitler's millions of victims there would be one more. But maybe it won't be so bad?" (The letter from Natalia Zajczyk to Anna Zimmermann, 28 November 1945, inv. no. MPOLIN-A31.2.3). | Renata Piątkowska
