Postcard: Tarnów – synagogue at Nowa Street

A postcard issued in Tarnów by the local publisher J. Ringelheim, with a reprint from a lithograph depicting the planned building of the Tarnów synagogue at Nowa Street. On the side with ruling, the details of the addressee in Tarnów were written in ink. The graphic shows the front and side wall of the synagogue: the building is covered with a gable roof, with two towers topped with domes. The postcard depicts a design by engineer Franciszek Dundaczek from around 1863, which was ultimately not executed. The synagogue, called the New or Jubilee Synagogue, was opened in 1908 (after over 40 years of construction) on the birthday of Emperor Franz Joseph I, in the 60th year of his reign. The original project was partially implemented. In 1899, a new synagogue construction committee was established and commissioned the architect Władysław Ekielski to create a new design. As a result, there were not two towers, but one dome centrally located in the roof and covered with gold.
