Prayer at the grave of Tzadik Natuli from Ropczyce, Łańcut

Traczewska, Agnieszka (1969-)

The photographed women are gathered around a tombstone located in an ohel in the Jewish cemetery in Łańcut. Journeys to the graves of tzaddiks and former shtetls, which constitute a religious experience and provide a renewal of the spiritual bond with the tzaddik, are obligatory for male Hasidim. Women are not obliged to make such a trip, they usually look after the home and children while their husband is away, so their presence at the graves of tzaddikim is not frequent or massive, although they are not forbidden to do so.
