Projects

Nacht-Samborski, Artur (1898-1974)

"Projekty" (Projects), as Artur Nacht-Samborski has signed his work, is a set of trial sketches, perhaps of a theatre set or ballroom decoration.

The author has made subsequent versions, changing the arrangement of props and fabric – a blood-red curtain or a curtain. All variants are maintained in the same colour scheme of reds and blues. The most intriguing motif are the masks, resembling the Greek ones used in the ancient theatre, like the one with giant eye sockets and an open, screaming mouth, and the Chinese ones – alabaster white, with lines around the eyes and mouth. Both masks are intensely expressive, showing clearly defined moods and emotions.
