Receipt of payment

Confirmation of payment (receipt) to the Central Jewish Association of Retail and Small Merchants, Branch in Białystok, made by Mr Wróbel from Sosnowa Street in 1937. The Central Jewish Association of Retail and Small Merchants in Poland was established in 1922 and brought together less wealthy merchants. Its main aim was to protect the interests of small Jewish merchants, especially when negotiating the amount of trade fees and the terms of trade in goods. The union's headquarters were located in Warsaw at 4 Niska Street. The union had branches in all major Polish cities with a significant Jewish population. The Bialystok branch was located at 20 Kupiecka Street, close to numerous craft workshops and Jewish shops. In the 1920s, Jewish trade unionists took action together with a similar Christian union on issues concerning small merchants.
