Rectangular tray with the Star of David

The rectangular tray with a double groove has a profiled strip around it. In the centre of the tray, there is the Star of David with the Hebrew letter "shin" within it, and in the corners - plant branches. The tray was originally silver plated. Hallmarks are visible on the bottom placed one below the other: an image of a two-headed eagle with a crown, an oval inscription: "FRAGET/ N/ PLAQUE", an illegible oval mark, the model number "3876" and the letter "SZ"'.

The tray was made at the J. FRAGET Silver and Plated Products Factory in Warsaw (Fabryka Wyrobów Srebrnych i Platerowanych J. Fraget). Jozef Fraget's 1914 "Illustrated price list of the factory of plated products on white metal and silver 84 hallmark" included as model number 3876 "Square trays with a straight edge", both plain and guilloche, with and without handles, with exactly the dimensions of the presented object. However, trays with Jewish motifs were not among the products on offer. That fact and the way in which the decoration was made suggest that the decoration was most likely applied later on.

The item was purchased for the Museum in 2007 from a collector from Warsaw who had bought it in an antique shop in Warsaw in 1985–2000.
