The Report

Gottlieb, Leopold (1879-1934)

A moustachioed officer of the Legionary cavalry, with a sabre at his side and a coat draped over his shoulders, reads out a report just handed to him by a young soldier (adjutant or messenger), waiting in full gear for orders. The scene takes place in Wołczeck in Polesie Volhynia, where the Legions fought bloody battles back in 1915, and then were stationed nearby for several months before the Battle of Kostiuchnówka. | AT
