Seder is a ritual meal eaten on the first evening of the holiday of Pesach (Passover). It is conducted according to a specific order. The feast requires preparing traditional foods, which are served on a special plate. These include: three pieces of matzah; maror – bitter herbs; charoset – a paste made of apples, nuts, almonds, cinnamon, and wine; beitzah – hard-boiled eggs; a lamb bone – symbol of the Pesach sacrifice; salted water; vegetables; wine. The head of the household relates the story of the Exodus from the Haggadah, and the youngest child asks four questions explaining the meaning of the Seder feast. The door is left open for Prophet Elijah, and a seat at the table and a cup of wine is set out for him. Seder concludes with eating a piece of matzah (afikoman) symbolising the Pesach sacrifice, singing psalms (Halel), hymns, songs, and reciting the wishes: “Next year in Jerusalem”.
