The shopping

Kofta, Zuzanna (1994- )

The depiction of Ryszard Ciszewski riding his bicycle with provisions for the Jews hidden by his family. He is shown with three large bundles on his shoulders and a net in his right hand. The wheels of the bicycle with several spokes are strongly outlined.

The picture was used as a montage in Ryszard Ciszewski's account of his mother Janina Ciszewska hiding eleven people. The son rode his bike all over town to buy food - he got it by buying food not in one place, but in smaller quantities in many places. He did not want to arouse anyone's suspicions.
