Short copy of the birth certificate of Marta Olchawa (born Bauer) issued by the Registry Office in Łódź on 22 August 1950 – official document, single-page, printed on a blank paper sheet, filled in by hand, in Polish. In the top left corner, there is the name of the issuer: “THE REPUBLIC OF POLAND | Registry Office in Łódź | DOWNTOWN SECTION” and filing number: 28280/4/1949. Glued to the page at the top edge, on the right, are three fiscal stamps. They are stamped with three round stamps of the Registry Office. On the right, there is the place and date of issuance, as well as the name stamp and hand signature of the clerk, Marian Matera. The short copy of the birth certificate includes the personal data of Marta Olchawa’s biological parents – Marek (born Izydor Marek) and Ernestyna née Kutin Bauer. The name “Olchawa” comes from the foster mother, Stanisława Olchawa, who took in the girl at the request of her parents. The Bauers died in Lvov during World War II. | Text by Monika Harchut
