Siege tower

Bok, Teodor (1947-2007)

It is part of the collection

The black and white ink drawing seems to be a sketch for one of Teodor Bok's sculptures. It depicts a quadrangular tower/building/construction made of wood, nailed horizontally, with two or four nails per board. The nails are nailed but not driven all the way through, sticking out to form a stubby iron ``armour``. There are two holes in the front of the tower. A turnstile rod is placed in the upper one, while the turnstile string is led out of the lower hole. A stone tied with ropes was suspended on the turnstile. So, it may be a siege machine (called a trebuchet) known in antiquity and commonly used in the Middle Ages, throwing stones/missiles – although, as is usual with Theodor Bok, the one in his drawing is not modelled on those known to us from historical literature.
