Snuffbox with outer walls covered with cream-coloured mother-of-pearl plates. It is a low rectangular box with cut corners. The edges and corners are fitted with pieces of brass sheet metal with scalloped edges. The lid is attached to the box with hinges. It is decorated with a representation of Jerusalem surrounded by a rosette-shaped rim. Inscriptions in Hebrew: at the top, along the longer edge: “Kotel/ mekom/ HaMikdash/ me’oni” (Western Wall/ site of/the Temple/ my abode); in the bottom right, year according to the Jewish calendar: [5]644 (1884); at the bottom, along the longer edge: “L’Achi HaRav HaMa[or] HaGa[dol]? ?? Tuvya? ShLYT’” (For my brother, rabbi, great scholar? ??, Tuvya, may he have a long life). The side walls are decorated with rosette motifs.
