Soup tureen ladle

The cutlery set was made by the "BUBELA i SKA" factory at 39 Frysztacka Street in Cieszyn. The company specialised in cutlery and steel products. The address of the factory is recorded in many pre-war registers, including "Pierwszy Spis Abonentów Central Sieci Telefonicznych Śląska Zaolziańskiego dyrekcji okręgu P. i T. w Katowicach" of November 1938. The factory survived the war, and in 1945 a unit of the Polish Workers' Party was active there ("Dzieje Cieszyna od pradziejów do czasów współczesnych", ed. I. Panic). It was on the basis of this company that the POLWID Cieszyn Tableware Factory was established after the war.

The ladle is part of the cutlery set. It is made of metal alloy, plated with a thin layer of silver. The ladle is elliptical — it tapers more strongly towards the tip and more gently towards the handle. The flat handle, which widens towards the bottom, is decorated with a frugal geometric pattern in the art déco style. The decoration consists of two simple grooves (thinnings) running along both edges. Visible signs of use: patina, abrasion of the coating, surface scratches.

This piece of cutlery is connected to a dish – a tureen. The phrase "tureen on the table" was used to signal that soup was served, although in practice this dish was only used in very wealthy homes. It also had a strictly decorative and prestigious role, as it was one of the most representative pieces of tableware. It was often displayed on the sideboard next to the table. Tureens were made from a variety of materials, including silver, plated metal, porcelain and faience (J. Paprocka-Gajek, "Platery warszawskie w latach 1822-1914", Warszawa 2010).
