A spice box is a container for aromatic herbs, cloves, ginger, or nutmeg, which are used during Havdalah – the prayer marking the end of Shabbat. Spice boxes are usually made of silver, less frequently of other metals or glass. They usually have the shape of a turret topped with a flag finial. In Poland, spice boxes would often also have the shape of fruit or flowers on stalks.

The item became part of the collection of the National Museum of Przemyśl in 1966 thanks to the initiative of Museum workers who purchased the spice box at a jewellery shop for scrap silver they had collected.
