A spice box is a container for aromatic herbs, cloves, ginger, or nutmeg, which are used during Havdalah – the prayer marking the end of Shabbat. Spice boxes are usually made of silver, less frequently of other metals or glass. They usually have the shape of a turret topped with a flag finial. In Poland, spice boxes would often also have the shape of fruit or flowers on stalks.
