Still life

Bok, Teodor (1947-2007)

part of the collection

Teodor Bok wanted to study at the Academy of Fine Arts. However, in the second half of the 1960s, in Poland the political climate (especially the anti-Semitic persecutions of March '68) was not favourable for the artistic development of people of Jewish origin. Bok was not accepted to the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and was called up for military service instead. Teodor was friends with Ewa Kuryluk. She was the one to have stored his early paintings for many years. The modest Martwa natura [Still Life] – a clay vase, a bottle, and a clay cup on a saucer placed on the table – is a preview of Bok’s talent, which was to blossom fully during his Danish immigration.
