Illustration for Chapter VIII of the novel, titled (the chapters have summary titles) "Okręt «Burza». – Statek «Błyskawica» i dostojny pasażer. – Budowa «Nadziei»”. ("Storm" warship. –"Lightning" ship and a distinguished passenger. – Construction of "Hope").

Made in mixed technique (collage), the work depicts the boys in a tree, which in their play is a ship.

Let us list the most important elements of the composition, paying attention to the technique of their implementation. The figures of the boys, the tree (two trunks and some leaves), the ladder hanging from the branches at the bottom, the flowers and the grasses - drawn, painted with ecoline (celadon/blue), also painted (the ropes of the ladder, the flowers); the elements of the crown of the tree are glued elements of various colours cut out of paper, spotted with paint. There is also a large mast (paint) with three triangular flags (glued elements) standing on a single trunk growing diagonally. The boy standing on the trunk, the one furthest to the left, has a cap on his head (paint, crayon; it is a child's cap made of a piece of paper folded appropriately), the inscription on it says: "TYTUŁ" (TITLE); one of the two boys at the top of the tree, i.e. top right, has a telescope (made with paint) by his eye.

The illustration in the book is printed in yellow and black. In the book illustration, the background elements – clouds – are added.
