Studio photograph of Gina (Regina) Pinkus Szwarc

At first, the life of Gina (Regina) Szwarc, née Pinkus, in France seemed entirely dependent on the fate of Marek Szwarc, with his decisions and choices. At first, they were filled with the upbringing of their daughter Tereska (Susanna Teresa), born in 1920. However, the subsequent Parisian years broadened and enriched Gina's biography. Szwarc introduced his wife to the artistic bohemia of Montparnasse in the 1920s, to the issues of contemporary art, the formation of which she initially seemed to observe only, but in fact, she was its sensitive recipient and commentator. Under the pseudonym Eugenia Markowa, she began collaborating with magazines in France and Poland, including the Warsaw-based women's weekly 'Ewa'. In later years, she wrote several novels and dramas, translated into French (including Le Porteur d'eau, 1931); the second edition from 2010 features drawings by Marek Szwarc. She is the author of memoirs from the years 1919-1921 entitled "Le Choix", also published in Polish (E. Markowa, „Wybór” [Choice], Warsaw-Toruń 2015).
