Studio photograph of Szymon Zajczyk and Fania (Fruma) Zajczyk

Szymon Zajczyk was born on 18 November 1900 in Warsaw. His mother's name was Fruma, although, as we know from the letters of Natalia Zajczyk and the stories of her daughter Zosia (Jael Rosner), she was called Fania in the family. The Zajczyk family was wealthy, father Gerszon was a tradesman.

The Zajczyks lived in Warsaw at Flat 5, 57 Wilcza Street (this address can be found in the documents of Szymon Zajczyk, which are stored in the Archive of the University of Warsaw, and in the 1939 Warsaw Golden Pages). It was only the forced move to the ghetto, ordered by the Germans in October 1940, that forced the Zajczyks to leave their flat. Renata Piątkowska
