Objects

A rectangular shaped suitcase made of leather attached to a wooden frame with rivets that run along all edges of the object. The suitcase also has metal caps to strengthen each of its corners. The skin layer is dyed navy blue (actually sea - navy blue with green). The inside of the suitcase is lined with natural-colored linen. The suitcase is equipped with metal fittings (2 hinges and 2 fasteners). The fasteners are located on the sides of the handle (from the outside). Both fasteners are lockable (no keys). The handle is also made of metal. It has been protected by a brown varnish. Along the edge of the flap, there are seams, which have been additionally secured with a cardboard tape. At the bottom of the suitcase (on the outside) there are 5 rivets larger than the others (4 in the corners, 1 in the middle) that act as supports (prevent direct contact with the ground). Additional 4 larger rivets (supports) were placed on the bottom wall of the suitcase (opposite to the handle).

The suitcase belonged to Feliks Tych (1929-2015). It contained one change of underwear and a jar of goose lard, which he received for his mother's journey when his parents organized their son's escape from the ghetto in Radomsko in mid-September 1942. When information about the upcoming liquidation action began to reach the inhabitants of the ghetto in Radomsko, the parents of the then thirteen-year-old Feliks Tych (1929-2015) decided to organize the escape of their son. Equipped only with a small suitcase with a change of clothes and a jar of lard for the road, the boy was supposed to sneak out of the ghetto shortly before the curfew and spend the night at his father's former factory worker. Then he was to go to Warsaw to see his older sister, who, together with her husband, managed to escape from the Warsaw ghetto before the liquidation and live in Żoliborz. Feliks Tych never saw his parents again. They died during the liquidation of the ghetto in Radomsko. The memento was donated to the Museum by the son of Feliks Tych, Włodzimierz.
