The Tempel Synagogue (24 Miodowa Street)

Photographic documentation of the site

The Tempel Synagogue, known as the Progressive Synagogue, is located in the Kazimierz district in Kraków, at 24 Miodowa Street. Erected on a rectangular floor plan in the years 1860–1862, the building was designed by Ignacy Hercok in the Renaissance Revival style with Moorish elements. The synagogue was founded by the Association of Progressive Israelites (Polish: Stowarzyszenie Izraelitów Postępowych) and the Religious and Civil Society (Polish: Towarzystwo Religijno-Cywilizacyjne). Its official opening crowned nearly 20 years of efforts to create a Reform synagogue in Kraków.
