Thelma Blass, Me'a She'arim, Jerusalem

Traczewska, Agnieszka (1969-)

In the photograph, Thelma Blass, a woman from a Hasidic family from Mea Shearim in Jerusalem, presents a portrait of one of her ancestors. Hanging portraits or photographs of ancestors is a common custom in Hasidic homes - such a display is often multi-generational and shows strong family ties. A special place is given to portraits of Holocaust survivors as those who initiated the rebuilding of the family.
