Christine Tibika was born in Łódź as Fany Kurz. Her mother Raja Filkenstein died most likely in Treblinka; her family came from Białystok. Her father Zalman Kurz came from a Łódź family and was a textile worker; he and his brother had a factory in Zduńska Wola and a shop in Łódź. The parents of Christine Tibika studied in Nancy?; they returned to Poland in 1933 (without completing their studies) and settled down in Łódź. After the war broke out, the family were sent to the Warsaw Ghetto, from which Christine Tibika was led out owing to her father’s connections. She moved in with the Weizman family in Grochów and stayed there until 1945 or 1946. After the war, she was adopted by her father’s family.
She worked at the Institute of Nuclear Research. In 1961, she married Leszek Niedziułka, an engineer. In 1968, she was dismissed from her job, got divorced and decided to emigrate. She left for Israel, where she worked as a chemist and met her second husband. She left for France, where she lives to this day.
